La Fiesta Santa Barbara 2004 : An annual tradition in Santa Barbara is Old Spanish Days or Fiesta. This is a four day period of dancing, food, and parades, usiually the first week in August. Fiesta 2005 : This year's Fiesta photos are mostly of the parade. El Desfile Historico. The parade starts Friday at noon sharp and lasts about two hours at nay one location. It starts near the harbor at Castillo and Carillo and parallels the beach on Carillo until it reaches State St. It then goes up State Street through most of the downtown area. During the Parade most of Santa Barbara closes down, either to watch the parade or just because it's a good excuse not to work. Summer Solstice Parade 2005 : Each year, Santa Barbara has two summer parades, The Solstice Parade and the Fiesta Parade. The latter is the more establishment and occurs in August. This is the newer, zanier, Solstice Parade which occurs near the Solstice in June. I don't think that there is a program published, so therefore I can't caption the pictures with the names of the people or organizations in them. So just enjoy

I Madonnari - May 2005 : Madonnari are street painters in Italy, so called because many of them took the Madonna as their subject. Each Memorial Day weekend this tradition is recreated in Santa Barbara as a benefit for the Children's Creative Project, a project of the County Board of Education. Admission and parking are free to the visitors; corporate and civic organizations sponsor artists by purchasing the squares on the asphalt. In addition to the paintings, there is music, food, and drink.

CVN-76 The USS Ronald Reagan : On Friday, August 19th, 2005, the Aircraft Carrier USS Ronald Reagan visited Santa Barbara as one of its last visits before deployment. This carrier has been adopted by the Navy League of Santa Barbara, with the League providing many crew comforts not included in normal Government Issue. There is a strong tie between Santa Barbara and President Reagan, as he spent many vacations in his ranch near here while he was President.

French Festival 2005 : Santa Barbara has a number of ethnic festivals during the summer months. The French Festival is one of the oldest and most popular. This festival is held on the weekend nearest Bastille Day. It has continuous entertainment and booths selling food, art, and travel among others. A few hours at one of Santa Barbara Festivals is a nice way to spend a summer weekend afternoon.

Operation Pack A Suitcase : Operation Pack A Suitcase was formed in response to Hurricane Katrina. They received donations of clothing and used suitcases. The clothing was sorted and packed into suitcases by volunteers. The suitcases were then loaded on to a Mammoth Moving truck and taken to shelters in Mississippi and Texas.

One Day of Caring : The Santa Barbara United Way Sponsors "One Day of Caring" each year. Teams of employees from various businesses and other organizations dedicate a day to help out at a local non-profit. On September 17, 2005, 47 teams of volunteers fanned out into the community. This gallery documents four of those teams.

La Fiesta Pequena Dress Rehearsal : La Fiesta Pequeña ocurrs on the first night of Santa Barbara's annual Old Spanish Days Fiesta. It consists of numerous presentations by local dance studios, performed on the steps of Mission Santa Barbara. It is always attended by a packed crowd. There is a dress rehearsal the night before with fewer attendees, allowing better access for photography. These are pictures from the 2007 dress rehearsal
